The Beach

Hammonassett State Park - Located just off Rte. 1, about 3 miles east of Madison Beach Hotel. This beautiful State Park is great for swimming, walking, biking, running, camping, jogging, beach walks, kite flying, and rollerblading. Park is open until sunset.

Culture

Gillette Castle - Fieldstone mansion overlooking the Connecticut River was built in 1919 as a private home of actor William Gillette, famous portrayer of Sherlock Holmes. Unique interior. Call for times and days. Picnic area available.

Essex Steam Train & Riverboat - 12 mile trip along the CT River connecting to riverboat excursion down the CT River & return.
